UFED: A Decision and Resources Support Tool
Welcome to the UFED Tool. UFED provides guidance on the selection of methods, tools, and metrics for assessing diets and food environments in urban and peri-urban (UPU) contexts. Based on your answers to a set of questions, UFED will generate a customized toolkit with recommendations to assist in the design and implementation of the assessments, linking with standardized dietary and emerging food environment approaches that best match your needs. Note: UFED is best utilized following a brief review of diet and nutrition-related evidence from the UPU areas of focus or a similar context, which may highlight problems to prioritize for further investigation, as well as current gaps in the evidence.
UFED generates toolkits that link diet and food environment assessment methods, tools, and metrics to provide an integrated approach for studying urban and peri-urban areas. These toolkits provide recommendations on:
1
Combinations of methods, tools, and metrics to use, depending on what questions you want to answer.
2
Higher and lower-resource options that take into account time and money limitations.
3
Adaptations or considerations for assessment and measurement specific to urban and peri-urban contexts
4
Examples of research questions that can be addressed using the toolkit, and illustrative papers that have utilized similar approaches
